NSERC and Axelys sign memorandum of understanding to strengthen research-to-revenue continuum

Today, at CSPC 2025, Axelys and NSERC signed a historic memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening the links between federal research investments and the promotion of public research in Quebec.

This new collaboration marks a defining moment for our ecosystem:

– A strengthened continuum between funding, research, maturation, commercialization, and societal impact.
– Better coordination between the federal government and Quebec to accelerate the transition from scientific discovery to innovation.
– A direct contribution to enhancing Canada’s competitiveness and economic sovereignty.

By combining the strengths of NSERC and the Quebec model, where the FRQ supports upstream research and Axelys acts downstream through maturation and transfer, we are creating a more fluid, efficient, and coherent path for transforming science into concrete benefits for society.

This agreement will make it possible to:

– Identify innovation potential in the early stages of research.
– Mobilize key players earlier.
– Strengthen the culture of commercialization in Quebec institutions.
– Maximize the return on public investment in research.
