Portrait of Scientific Entrepreneurship in Quebec
When it was created, Axelys was mandated by the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, and Energy to spearhead the development of the Quebec Approach to Scientific Entrepreneurship (SE), whose goal is to double the number of businesses stemming from public research within five years. To achieve this, Axelys coordinated the Scientific Entrepreneurship Roundtable, a group of more than 40 key organizations in the innovation ecosystem, including universities, scientific entrepreneurs, support organizations, and investors.
These stakeholders collaborated on five work streams: Research, Awareness, Inter-faculty Programming, Referral, and Private Financing. Together, they designed and deployed initiatives to stimulate the emergence and growth of new technology companies from the research community.
The ES Research Project aims to identify research priorities in scientific entrepreneurship and to monitor progress. The study presented here is part of this initiative and was carried out with financial support from Axelys.
