Promoting public research to fully capitalize on Quebec’s innovations

Bernard Drainville, Minister of Economy, Innovation, and Energy and Minister responsible for the Maritime Strategy, has announced funding for Espace Aéro to stimulate innovation in the aerospace sector. This support will enable the implementation of an innovation support initiative under the Innovation Continuum program, led by the technology transfer company Axelys. The goal: to help companies in the sector better leverage the expertise and resources of Quebec’s public research institutions, while promoting benefits for the people of Quebec.

The financial assistance, totaling $1.7 million over two years, stems from a call for projects by Axelys aimed at addressing the need for commercialization and innovation support in Quebec’s innovation zones and innovation centers. Its goals are:

  • to increase the creation of innovative companies stemming from public research;
  • to stimulate collaborative innovation between companies and the research community through partnerships and support for research platforms;
  • to accelerate the transfer of innovations arising from public research to companies and end-user communities.

Espace Aéro will be able to draw on specialized resources to better support innovative companies and projects in the aerospace sector. The goal is to further support research-driven entrepreneurship, bring companies and research institutions closer together, and make research platforms more accessible to companies. To achieve this, the innovation hub will work in particular with the Centech technology incubator, the Consortium for Aerospace Research and Innovation in Quebec, and the Aerospace Technology Center.

We are very pleased with the awarding of this grant to Espace Aéro. Through the Innovation Continuum program, Axelys acts as a catalyst between public research and the commercial sector to accelerate the transfer of innovations to the market. This support is part of our commitment to supporting transformative and promising initiatives for Quebec.” Jesse Vincent-Herscovici, President and CEO of Axelys
