As Senior Director, Transfer and Innovation Partners, my role is to optimize our practices with a view to continuously improve external business relations, particularly with industrial partners interested in our intellectual property portfolio. By working effectively and together with all the stakeholders involved in the innovation ecosystem, a greater number of inventions can and will be deployed and made useful to Québec society.

As a Transfer Director, my mission is to identify high-potential technologies across a variety of sectors, secure financing and select key partners and entrepreneurs in order to pursue the development and commercialization of said technologies. With a doctorate in wood and bio-based materials engineering and a master’s degree in chemistry and formulation engineering, I have developed cutting-edge expertise in the development of innovative coatings and adhesives for wood, as well as in the design of low environmental impact materials in general.

As an entrepreneurship project manager, my role is to develop tools and programs to support the creation and growth of spin-offs from public research. In particular, I contribute to networking initiatives between co-founders and strategic coaching for start-ups. With a background in biology and computer science, and experience in venture capital, I’m particularly interested in evaluating entrepreneurial opportunities with strong scientific and technological potential. I enjoy connecting people, structuring ideas and helping ambitious technology companies to emerge with tangible benefits.

As Director, Analysis and Evaluation, I coordinate the operations of our team of analysts and contribute to the development and implementation of processes and best practices for the evaluation of innovation potential and the commercialization of inventions stemming from public research in Québec. As a Technical-Commercial Analyst and Service Coordinator, my role is to evaluate the innovation potential of technologies stemming from Québec public research. I specialize in analyzing innovations beloging to the life sciences. I assess the intellectual property and commercial potential of these innovations in order to position them in their market. At Axelys, I’m involved in the mission of transferring ideas from public research to receptor communities for the benefit of Québec society.

As a Technical-Commercial Analyst, my mission is to carry out in-depth research on each of the files we receive, in order to assess their patentability and business potential. More pointedly, my job consists in analyzing prior art and assessing the market to support the decision to pursue or abandon the process of commercializing potential innovations, particularly in science and technology.

As a Technical-Commercial Analyst, my role is to assess the value of ideas, to ensure that the full potential of Québec innovations is captured, but also to ensure their competitiveness and IP protection. I specialize in information technology, which enables me to provide high value-added information, so that I can bring the best information to our researchers, clients and partners to enhance the value of ideas and maximize their impact.

As a Technical-Commercial Analyst, I help to assess the business potential of inventions proposed by our partners. My role is to situate these potential innovations in relation to existing technologies and solutions, taking into account their IP and added value. I specialize in chemical and biotechnological process analysis, as well as business analysis. At Axelys, I actively contribute to identifying promising innovations that will meet Québec’s economic and social needs.

Mariem Abid is a technical sales analyst at Axelys. She has over 10 years’ combined experience in computer science, signal processing and applied artificial intelligence. She holds a PhD in signal and image processing from INSA Rennes in France. She then completed her postdoctoral training at the Laboratoire de recherche en imagerie et orthopédie (LIO), the Centre de recherche du Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CRCHUM) and the Centre de recherche LICEF at Université TELUQ for 4 years. Mariem Abid is also a visiting researcher at the Institut d’intelligence artificielle appliquée (I2A Institute) at TÉLUQ University and a tutor for the Computer Science program committee of the Department of Science and Technology at TÉLUQ University.

Mariem Abid is also a scientific entrepreneur, and in 2021 founded applicare.ai, a company specializing in the development of digital biomarkers using artificial intelligence techniques. Mariem Abid has participated in various programs offered by Concordia University’s District 3 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre. First in the Quebec Scientific Entrepreneurship Program (QcSE) (spring 2021 cohort), then in the Market Discovery Program (fall 2021 cohort) and finally the Validation Program (winter 2022 cohort).

She also holds an attestation of professional specialization in business start-up, issued by the Ministère de l’éducation, de l’enseignement supérieur et de la recherche du Québec.She is also founder and mentor of the AI in Health: from research to application community of practice since March 2020, supported by the CHUM School of Artificial Intelligence in Health (ÉIAS). Mariem Abid was a mentor for the third cohort of MILA’s mentoring program from February to November 2023 and a volunteer with Hacking Health Montréal.

The combination of my training and experience, both in research and in industry, mainly focused on the various applications of photonic optics, sensors and instrumentation, as well as materials, enables me to play an active role in fulfilling Axelys’ mission: to promote sustainable prosperity in Québec.

With a PhD in molecular biology, I have developed expertise in in vitro modeling of rare diseases, stem cells, and regenerative medicine. I am currently a technical-commercial analyst in innovation, a role that allows me to work at the intersection of research, technology transfer, and scientific entrepreneurship, evaluating the potential of high-impact discoveries. Passionate about artificial intelligence applied to biology, I am interested in how it can enrich health data analysis. I am keen to play an active role in promoting Quebec as a hub for innovation in life sciences and cutting-edge technologies.

As Senior Legal Advisor , my role at Axelys is mainly to provide strategic advice on the protection of intellectual property assets resulting from Quebec public research, and to draft agreements governing the commercial exploitation of these assets. The experience I have acquired as a lawyer and trademark agent in firms specializing in intellectual property and commercial law enables me to support and advise our partners in the development of their projects.

As a Lawyer working in Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property, I coach Québec’s research facilities in commercializing their innovations. Beyond negotiating and drafting various business agreements, I also serve as legal counsel in terms of IP strategy and financing. The goal is for innovative ideas stemming from the scientific, social and cultural fields to consistently reach their full potential and resoundingly come to fruition both in Québec and abroad. And because my approach is focused on people, in my commercialization work, the interests, efforts and ambitions of researchers and businesspeople take centre stage.

As a legal advisor working within Axelys’ multidisciplinary teams, I assist research institutions and researchers in the process of commercializing their innovations. I am involved in drafting and negotiating agreements governing the protection, transfer, and commercialization of innovative technologies, and I also advise public research stakeholders on various strategies for protecting their intellectual property. In doing so, and drawing on my experience in technology companies, I contribute to Axelys’ mission and help promote innovations resulting from Quebec’s public research.

As a Legal Adviser, I play an essential role in giving Québec’s public research results their rightful value. My mission is to negotiate and draft technology transfer agreements, thus ensuring the protection and commercialization of high-potential innovations. I also provide strategic advice to research establishments and researchers on the protection of their IP. By facilitating the transition of innovations to the marketplace, my work contributes directly to the development of Québec’s innovation ecosystem.

As a Paralegal in business law and intellectual property, my mission is to assist legal advisers in the preparation of the many agreements reached by Axelys with its partners. At Axelys, I help to protect the IP of Québec inventors and public research establishments, as well as to raise its profile across the province.

Working closely with our legal team and the institutions, my role as a patent paralegal is to ensure efficient management of the administrative procedures involved in protecting innovations stemming from Quebec’s public research. My priority is to ensure that each file is handled smoothly and rigorously, guaranteeing the order and conformity of the procedures, to ensure the success of the projects. Axelys’ support of Quebec researchers is very important to me, and it’s a real pleasure to see their research take off and reach its full commercial potential.
